Craneflies

Craneflies / Erdschnaken, 2015

My Craneflies / Erdschnaken reflect on human conditions. With wings too small to fly and legs too long to walk, they seemingly hover over the ground, animated, insect-like and strangely alive. They animate our fears and project on our desires.

Various dimensions, footprint around 5m in diameter.

Below are the first snapshots of a new and still ongoing series of sculptures - "Erdschnaken" is the working title for now... that is what these creatures are based on (Crane Flies). In a way continuing with my winged beings on a different level, just like the "Falenas". The bodies are carved out of a golden Egyptian Marble with a very subtle pattern. There will be 5 creatures in various shapes. The diameter of the footprint is about 10 feet or so each. They are 5 feet high. So far you see first snapshots of two of them."
